MAIN STREET PROJECT
News Flashes
On Thursday June 29th, 2006, the MSP project along with representatives from Economy Paving and C&S Engineers held a public information meeting. At this meeting, Economy Paving explained the early phase of construction, which concerns the Village's water main. On June 28th the crew from Economy Paving began digging in front of Farrell's Car Wash and the Washington St. intersection with Main St. These cuts are necesary to give access to the water main.
Water main work involves moving up the street in short segments all the way to the Main/Elm St. intersection on both sides. As the crews replace and refurbish the pipes they will cover up the already fixed pipe with soft gravel fill. This is because NYSEG crews will later follow the same path when reworking the electrical and gas lines. Economy Paving crews can also expand the access pipes into residence from the water main to the 2 inch width necessary for sprinkler systems. The cost of this installation is an extra cost that must be assumed by the property owner and is totally optional. The access pipes in any case will be refurbished, but will remain at the current 3/4 inch width, unless the owner contacts the MSP today.
When installing the new access lines from the main into a residence, Economy will shut off water for a brief period. Economy estimates this will be no longer than an hour in all cases.
The MSP continues to encourage people to come to it with any and all questions they have about the project. However, Economy Paving is an experienced company that welcomes any citizen comments and questions. Since the MSP and Economy Paving share a common link through our Project Field Representative, Ward Hungerford, it is safe to say that any comments will make it to us and vice-versa.
